Northline is adding a Winnipeg 3PL in October and expects $40k of MB sales next year. What do we need to do and when?
Three things, in this order.
1. Register for MB RST now, not in October. Northline is already over the threshold on direct sales — $14,820 of MB sales in the rolling twelve months against a $10,000 limit, first crossed in June 2026 MB-RST-REG-01 v3.0. The 3PL is a separate trigger; holding inventory in Manitoba creates an obligation independent of revenue MB-RST-NEXUS-02 v3.0.
2. Enable MB RST in Shopify at the same time. Shopify currently has MB switched off and it does not remit on the client's behalf, so every direct MB order since June has been undercharged. Amazon.ca sales are excluded because Amazon is the deemed collector FED-GST-MKT-04 v4.2.
3. Quantify Jun–Aug 2026 before the registration goes in. Estimated uncollected RST is $1,037 at 7%.
Open items I could not resolve from the rulebook: whether the Winnipeg 3PL charges RST on its warehousing and freight services, and whether any of Northline's SKUs qualify for an MB exemption. Both need a human decision.
